Hydroxyethyl cellulose, referred to as HEC, is a nonionic cellulose ether product specially used in waterborne coating systems. It is made from natural cellulose through a series of chemical processes. It is an odorless and tasteless white powder that is easily soluble in cold water to form a transparent viscous solution.
